Building and using Characters
Using Characters in Mage Space to improve your creation results and to keep the character consistent between images and videos
Rather than uploading multiple pictures and pointing to the AI exclaiming "that man!", it's much better to create Characters and use these references, especially if you are making multiple references to the same person.
This ensure consistency since the AI would otherwise be "reconstructing" the idea of the person, and there is risk of distortions, especially in critical areas like the face.
You start by clicking on Characters on the left hand side menu. On the main screen, you can see other characters already created and their "@" handle which you can use to call these characters in prompts.
Click "Create New"
Let's create a Character

Upload a photo and make it a good photo. If possible, crop it as much as possible. Before uploading.
if you see the picture cut up into 9 squares and randomised, then this means that the picture will not come out well. So re-crop the picture, omitting as much extra space as possible.
I've uploaded the character "Demon Bear" and provided his name. The system will allocate your character a random handle name which you can call up.
I didn't both with voice since the video models I used don't work with them (only two works with audio), and the audio effects are basic at best.
Keep you character private too, unless you are happy to share with others. What this toggle does is if you

In the prompt bar, we call up the new character by typing "@" and then starting to type "demon bear". It completes the bar through a selection, and we completely the prompt with an action.
Note you can also see the character's image at the bottom next to "fast".
Using your character

The result hit the mark and did have my character performing the action that I did mention.
However, you can also see that it's not completely perfect. He is not completely sitting on the chair as I would have imagined, and that's because I didn't specify this in the prompt.
You can also see that the bear has some of the food close to his mouth. I didn't specify this, but was added anyway. This is all the more reason why the Pro Plus plan helps in dealing with irregularities for free.

In order for Mage's AI to render and create your character perfectly, and thereby use it in each image or video that you design, you will want to make sure you have your picture as clean as possible.
This means:
Removing unnecessary edges - crop your image as tight as possible to the characters so that there is no doubt of the character dimensions. This means as thin a border as possible.
Remove additional characters, persons or anything that looks "person-like" - Sounds silly, but the AI needs to be absolutely sure of which "person" is the person you want to make into a character. For group photos, I find its easy to use any commercial AI (not necessarily needing to be Mage) to just upload a photo and request it to "remove additional people".
Remove background images - Keep the background as clean and bland as possible. So make sure to remove anything that looks even vaguely distracting, anything with a face, anything with eyes, limbs or anything else that might resemble a person. If an image is not going to render well, then Mage will upload the photo as a mixed grid image. If you get this, then remove and clean up the image before uploading again.
Get Mage to create a Character from the App or through the prompt and use that- If your photos and/or photoshopping skills are an absolute dog's breakfast, then just ask Mage to create your character using the app or just upload the picture and ask it to "make this into a character". Face it. It does a better job than you any day.
